The Thunder's season was concluded, somewhat ironically, by thunder and lightning on a rain soaked field in Mobile. The cancellation of the last game left us tied with ECU. While the Thunder had a good chance of bringing home the title after the final unplayed game, Emerald Coast United was awarded first place based on head to head competition. 2008-09 Wrap up: We finished the spring season at 10-10-2 with a tournament win at Destin and second place at Mobile. The Thunder also took the Southern Soccer League crown and the consolation game at President's Cup. The U17 boys won the MS state championship by beating three of the top six teams including their current champion.
The fall portion of the season was 8-3-4 with wins over the GA state champions and another GA Final Four team, plus a tournament championship highlighted by wins over a LA Final Four team and a 4-0 shutout against PFC. The total for 2008/09 is 18-13-6.
