Thunder Attracts International Audience in Their Final Game

Bayside Thunder Places Second in Flora Bama Showcase Men's Open Division

The U18 Thunder, under Coach Ken MacDonald, placed second in their final tournament appearance. The tournament was hosted by the Perdido Bay Futbol Club and featured webcasts of all the Thunder's games at the Orange Beach, AL Sportsplex which were watched worldwide. The Thunder went undefeated on Saturday beating the number eight ranked team in Tennessee from Memphis 2-1 in a game controlled by the Thunder. In the next game they held the talented Brilla, formerly the Mississippi Fire, scoreless in a 1-0 win. Although the Thunder lost the Sunday game to Disney finalist Gainesville, they advanced to the championship based on Saturday play and Gainesville's loss to Tennessee. The rematch was more of the same as the speedy Caimans played off deep balls for another 3-0 win. The 2009 Thunder will stand down effective 8 October for the high school soccer season.
